Given its name after the legendary King Janak, Janakpur was the center of the ancient kingdom of Mithila. It is the birthplace of Sita, the wife of god Ram and the major character of the great Hindu epic Ramayan. Today Janakpur stands among the most notable and interesting places in all of Tarai.

Janakpur has turned into a major pilgrimage site today. The most consecrated spots are the Janaki Mandir, committed to goddess Sita, the Ram-Sita Bibaha Mandir that commemorates the marriage of Ram and Sita, Ram Mandir that is devoted to god Ram and the blessed lake of Dhanush Sagar. The town is mostly frequented by pilgrims coming from the south who come here consistently to offer their admiration to the goddess at this sanctuary.

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu International Airport

As you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the representative of Adventure White mountain (AWM) welcomes you and route to the hotel which is already booked for you. In the evening, we organize welcome typical Nepali dinner.

Day 2

Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Spend a day of sightseeing around UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Bauddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square.

Day 3

Kathmandu to Janakpur / Visit Janakpur and overnight

In the morning after breakfast, take a 30-minute flight to Janakpur. Visit the iconic Janaki Temple and nearby places. You can also visit the surrounding villages. Stay overnight in Janakpur.

Day 4

Back to Kathmandu and explore Bhaktapur

Take a flight back to Kathmandu in the early afternoon and drive to Bhaktapur. Visit popular areas in and around Bhaktapur such as Nyatapol and Dattatreya Temple. You can also spend the afternoon at one of the roof-top restaurants of Durbar Square.

Day 5

Departure to your Country

Here ends our memorable journey to Nepal as you get on flight for your home country. Representative of Adventure white mountain will drop you at the Airport.

Essential Information

Getting There:
Leave Kathmandu in the morning after breakfast. A scenic drive of more than six hours will bring you to Janakpur. If you are traveling from Pokhara, the drive is a little less than that from Kathmandu.

Places of Interest:

The main bazaar is a busy square lined with markets. People from neighboring villages come together for trade and talk. While at first glance it might seem overwhelming but the nearby villages are quiet. The main attraction here is the Ram-Janaki Temple made out of marble. Made in honor of Lord Ram and Sita, this temples depicts the epic of Ramayana in its many walls.

Accommodation & Dining

There are cheap but comfortable basic lodges in the town area. While dining facilities are average, most of them offer typical Nepalese cuisine and hospitality.
