About Rara Lake Trek
The Rara Lake Trek is one of the precious experiences you will gain in Nepal. The jounrey is rewarding along the way and much more satisfying as soon as you get there. The hues and colors of Lake Rara and surroundings will fill you with amazement. It will seem as if Mother Nature herself has taken some time off to paint. Taking you through green forests, amazing valleys and pastures, you will witness the authentic lifestyle of local people. Rara is the largest lake of Nepal, lying within Rara National Park, the smallest national park of Nepal. The lake itself is surrounded by mostly conifers but the pristine water of the lake is home to the exotic snow-trout. The region is an exotic home to a number of birds and animals, too.
The Rara Lake Trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj to Simikot. As you walk through frail trails and beautiful villages lined with woods, rivers, and pastures, you will wonder how remote and quiet it can get in the world. The population mostly lives off farming and honey-hunting. Albeit ones with a simple lifestyle, the people have set up a system of home-stays for those wanting to take a break from camping for the night. While it’s a chance to get to know their lifestyle, you will also be supporting them financially.
Unlike in other high-altitude regions of Nepal, a trek to Lake Rara is not too much challenging but a certain level of physical fitness is expected as you will be walking along rough tracks. The best months to visit is from early to late Spring for splendid views of rhododendron forests but you can also go there during autumn when the mountains are clearer than ever. You can also visit Dolpo and Rara Lake through Helicopter. That takes lesser time and provides you the areial view as well.
